Drainage problems can be caused by many factors including;

  • Blockages
  • A Broken Drain
  • A Defective Drain
  • A Collapsed Drain
  • Movement of your building

If you’re looking to purchase a new house, this may have just become available to you during a house purchase survey. Not to panic though, there are several methods of drain repair available, and Drainsmart know exactly how to help!

Here at Drainsmart we will usually diagnose the problem with a CCTV camera inspection. This is to help form a decision that is based upon a detailed report, and helps us to decide on the best course of remedial work. When we use a camera inspection, they provide us with details of the;

  • Actual drain damage
  • The depth of the drain
  • The access to the problem area
  • The connecting pipework

All of these can affect the level of damage that is present in the drainage system.

If it’s at all possible for an insitu drain repair such as structural patch lining or structural soft felt lining to be used, then that is the ideal situation. This is because they are the most economical solutions, and we always try to carry out the most cost effective solutions for our customers. Although, in some cases there is no other option other than to excavate and replace all of the damaged pipework. If we were to experience problems when accessing the drain system or maybe the connecting pipework is preventing the insitu methods, this can be solved by using a combination of localised excavations for access to drain sections.

Sometimes the level of damage in a drain system has reached a high level of deterioration, then excavation and renewal will probably be the most likely outcome. There have also been some cases where the level of water loss and the possible erosion of soil have been badly affected. This is another case of a drain repair that requires structural soft felt lining replacement to correct drain repair work. In cases like these, we prefer to replace the defective section rather than attempt to repair it. We know that rather attempt to repair the section of pipe and have similar issues repeat, it is more cost effective to remove and replace it and reduce the probability of the problem returning. During this process we excavate and remove the softened ground which is situated below the leaking drain/pipe. The area surrounding the pip/drain is then replaced with mechanically compacted dry mix concrete to consolidate the affected subsoil and remove any voids below the pipework. Numerous other defects such as delaminated pitch fibre pipework, severely deformed pipework and/or root damage are all issues that Drainsmart have dealt with before, so you can ensure your Chelsea home and/or business is in good hands. Drainsmart are very well informed about the current Building Regulations which pertain to our industry and all of our knowledgeable drain engineers work with the installation of new pipework/ drain work, including PVC-u and ‘super sleve’. All of the structural soft felt lining work that we undertake is fully covered against faulty workmanship and materials with a 15 year guarantee. The work we do also has a Life expectancy is expected to last a minimum of 50 years.

A drain can usually look like it needs repairing, but that isn’t always the case. The simplest solution to a blocked drain can be removing the blockage and jet washing the inside to ensure the pathway is clear. This is extremely cost effective and takes away the worry of having the drain completely removed We can clean and repair clay Victorian drains, plastic pipes and pitch fibre drains.
